Stat Check

Before we get into this stat check, just a quick note about American Idol. All of the guys look like chicks this year. And not just Seacrest either.

Anyhow, with 40 percent of the season gone, let's take a quick look at the league leaders
thus far.

In the American League, eyes naturally go to names like Yoo-Nah Kim and Gordon DiSarcina. Kim sports a 10-1 record, limits hitters to a .199 average and a 0.87 WHIP. DiSarcina 6-2 mark is is supplemented by a 2.54 ERA and 1.08 WHIP. Out of the bullpen, Memphis' Andrew Mulder leads with 19 saves.

In the National, no pitcher has eclipsed 10 wins, but Lon Costello is the frontrunning pitcher. The Cincinnati hurler is 9-1 with a league-leading 2.08 ERA and four shutouts. Opponents hit a paltry .192 off of Costello, who tossed this season's lone no-hitter.

Kyle Merritt challenges Costello for top honors. The Charlotte hurler stands at 9-3 with a league best 130 strikeouts in 126 1/3 innings. Colorado Springs pitcher Gregory Rando leads all firemen with 24 saves in 25 chances.

At the plate, we look no further than Nerio Turner. Even though the Cleveland 'roid freak has slowed down, he still leads the majors with 41 home runs and 101 RBI. While Nerio trots towards 100 homers in the American League, San Juan's Timo Phillips is aiming at a triple crown in the National. Phillips is batting a major league best .397, with 33 home runs and 91 RBI. Phillips also packs a best of the majors 1.401 OPS.
