What the hell is that?
Editor's Note: Periodically through season one, we will attempt to find the meaning behind team nicknames and things like that.
Today, we point our compasses South to the state capital of Texas. The league's Austin franchise is named for Austin City Limits, a music concert program on PBS. The show has a niche with fans of country, blues and singer-songwriters, but the show has gone more mainstream with appearances by Coldplay and Norah Jones this season.

While I watch Syracuse piddle away a lead to DePaul, I thought I'd throw an update on.
Nerio Turner cooled off today. In the three cycles on January 30, Cleveland's rightfielder hit one home run in eight at-bats. In fairness, the Wahoos had the AM cycle off. He has a dozen homers in 47 at-bats, giving him one home run ever four at bats or so. What's more amazing is that he's only rung up six strikeouts. Not quite the Reggie Jackson/Jose Canseco power hitter.

Today's update includes a few noteworthy items.
First, we made some adjustments to the logic that determines stolen base success rates for individual players. The players at the upper end were being successful too often (upwards of 98% with over 75 attempts!). These upper tier players should come back down to Earth a bit.
Second, we made a change to the way players evaluate contract offers for long-term contracts and during the Re-signing stage of the free-agent process. You can now offer a player a contract for less years than he's demanding, but you'll have to make it for more money than he's asking in the longer deal.
For instance, if a player is asking for $6M per season over 4 years, he may now accept a contract for 1 year at a much steeper price than $6M. This does NOT come into play at all during the primary free-agent period. During that timeframe, free-agents who aren't receiving offers will lower their demands themselves.
We also put a cap on the age a player will accept a contract for. Previously, there was no cap and you could keep offering a player long-term deals regardless of age. Now, if a player is 42, for example, he won't be willing to accept a deal that keeps him playing at age 45.

Picture it.
Nashville, Tennessee. The last cycle.
Memphis starter Yuniesky Mantalban comes out after six innings of three hit ball, giving Sammy Williams a 3-1 lead going into the seventh. Williams proceeds to giver up two earned in 2/3 of an inning and the game is tied at 3. Two relievers later we get Edwin Parque. Parque comes in the eighth, gets one out and heads into the ninth inning with a 6-4 lead.
Parque proceeds to give up an RBI single and a three-run homer -- 2/3 IP, 4H, 4ER.
The decision? Sammy Williams AND Parque get blown saves and Parque takes the loss. Two blown saves in one game.
