The race for the anti-fireman of the Wailing Onion is heating up.The American League gold standard is Vinny Hume from Milwaukee (Algonquin for "The Good Land"). Hume has blown five saves in seven opportunities and sports a robust 8.87 ERA. In his last blown chance, Hume threw just 10 pitches in 2/3 of an inning and surrendered the game winning home run. Dante Sano (Vegas) has blown four saves in six chances and a number of pitches are tied at three.
Leading the majors is Torey Eaton from Chicago. Eaton has achieved amazing feats this season, blowing seven saves in 21 games. Yes, Eaton has blown it in 1/3 of his appearances. Good stuff. Eaton's 7.71 ERA is nothing to scoff at either. His last blown save was a doozy. Against Colorado Springs, Eaton faced four batters and three of them scored. Not bad for 1/3 of an inning. A handful of pitchers are tied with three blown saves each.
