Today's transactions are in honor of Giants DE Adrian Awasom. Adrian wins this year's Super Bowl Fuck Up award after getting pinched for DUI in Glendale this week. Awasom was sent home FedEx Ground for his transgression. Chances are he probably won't get his SB bonus this year either. Now on to the show...

Augusta released Vicente Camacho, Vasco Navarro, Willie Arnold, Quinn Walker, Alex Cust, Dick Nitkowski and Cozy Henry (a new nominee for name of the year...Cozy?).

Chicago placed Vladimir Galarraga on the DL.

Detroit placed Javier Moya on waivers.

Memphis released Art Clement, Guy Patrick and Cory Taylor. Memphis thinks New England wins but New York will cover.

Richmond released Ugueth Canseco and Fernando Merced.

San Juan claimed Angel Melo off waivers.

The Longest Day

Anytime you can work John Wayne into a post, I say go for it.

Atlanta and Burlington went 17 innings in the PM cycle to give the Wailing Onion its longest game of the season. Atlanta won the game on a pair of singles in the 17th. Eduardo Sierra's two-run single to left was followed by a Oswaldo Furcal blooper to right. Burlington managed one baserunner in the bottom half of the inning -- a hit batsman.

20 pitchers took the hill, 11 of them from the winning Mad Dogs. None of Atlanta's pitchers through more than three innings. Starter Doug Linton clocked 38 pitches in 2 1/3 frame, giving up three runs.

Roscoe Street wins the "Right Place at the Right Time" award, earning the win. Street threw four pitches 1/3 of an inning to collect his third victory.

Burlington's bullpen failed it. Al McNamara tossed five-hit ball over seven innings, notching seven strikeouts while only allowing three runs. Luke Sanford blew the save in the eighth by allowing the tying run. Dale Mullin took the loss.

And now, I need to go take my Nexium. Apparently the chili I made today will not be balanced by last night's purple pill.

Who's Hot? Who's Not?

I can't take the Miami-Duke game anymore. They are just slurping Duke even more than usual today.

So, who's hot you ask?

It turns out I am. Memphis is 6-4 in their last 10 but winners of their last five. Detroit is amidst a five-game winning streak as well, also going 6-4 in their last 10 games. Minnesota has taken 7 of 10, including four straight.

In the NL, Philadelphia is riding a five-game winning streak in the NL East, with Colorado Springs winning four straight. Atlanta, winner of three straight, have the hottest hand, though, winning eight of their last 10.

On the flip side...Vegas has lost five straight and 7 of their last 10. Not to be out done leaguemates Pittsburgh and Richmond are losers of their past four. The Shburgh has dropped 8 of their last 10. In an effort to not discourage ewad, I sucked hard in my first season of HBD. By the all-star break I didn't have a pitcher in my minor league system with any stamina and I maxed out my payroll so I couldn't do anything about it. You'll learn the system. Don't give up on it and don't hesitate to ask questions.

The National League is host to the three longest losing streaks in the Wailing Onion. The San Juan Epsteins (the team of my youth) are losers of their last 14. Challenging their futility are D.C., losers of their last eight, and Burlington, riding a six-game stinker.

Speaking of stinkers, DePaul-Notre Dame is live on ESPN Classic. This one should be putrid.

Today's ML Transacations

Today's transactions are powered by Wegmans Blueberry Muffin Crunch cereal. This diabetic nightmare has the flavor of an artificial blueberry muffin, as you might expect. It's just damn tasty.

Boston designated Peter Miller for assignment and promoted Raymond Stone.

Cinci promoted Damian Feng.

Detroit releases Ray Benes, Donaldo Diaz and Richard Collins.

Milwaukee signed free agents Damion Gray and Wascar Feliz.

New York signs international prospect James Funaki.

San Juan placed Efrain Cheng on the DL, promoted Daryl O'Toole, Ruben Rosado, Buck Harper, Homer Baxter and Thumper Bolick (side note...Thumper has a power rating of ZERO...not really the name you'd expect). Released Jose Limon. Deignated Kelly Merloni for assignment.

Poor George

George Cora lost his bid for immortality last night, snapping his 17-game hit streak during the AM cycle. His 0-4 performance, marked by two strikeouts ended a 35-for-81 run. Cora batted .432 during the stretch, walking only four time. He scored in almost have of his on-based chances (17 times).

Darren Cooper/KC and Bartolo Rosado/NAS each have active 13-game streaks.

Editor's Note: Ann Richards (pictured at right) at the 1992 Democratic National Convention gave a speech entitled "Poor George" about the former President Bush. I'm the king of fucking obscure references.

Nerio Watch

Nerio, in true power hitting form went 0-4 during the AM cycle. This comes on the heel of a red letter night for the Wahoos outfielder. During the PM2 cycle, Nerio went 3-4 with a dinger, four rbi and two runs scored. Gabby Connelly surrendered the wunderkind's 14th homer in 19 games in the second inning. It was the nail in Connelly's casket for the evening -- the River Otters hurler gave up six earned on 12 hits in 1 2/3 innings. It also marked Nerio's 10th multi-hit game this season.

Through the AM cycle, Nerio's line:

19g, 21R, 29H, 14HR, 29RBI, .382BA, .429 OBP, .974SLG, 1.403 OPS.

At his current pace, Nerio averages one homer every 5.42 at bats. Nerio averages four at-bats per game. Assuming Nerio plays 150 games and gets 600 at bats, Nerio is on pace for 100 home runs. Not too shabby for $1.52m per year.
